IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NID STUDIO TEST-

Shortlisted candidates from the entrance examination are required to undergo a studio test. This test evaluates the candidate’s skills for materials handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. Unlike the NIFT Situation Test there is not just one model they have to make, rather they have around 4-5 different tests. The material given could be clay where for eg. They have to depict a feeling like happiness using it. in one of the rounds they can give foam and the question asked could be create a half cut apple using a wet foam. Next material exploration could be by paper, the task could be making a cube of 6 inches without using any scale. One of the tasks involves creating a working model using the given set of materials. For example- wires. Ice cream sticks, straws and 2 potatoes were given and the task was to design an object which can move and can create sound also next there is a personality assessment test also. The NID Studio Test comprises of testing individual’s five senses. After this they are called for the interview. It is always advisable that the candidate carries his portfolio at the time of interview.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME (GDPD)

  1. Psychometric round–Doodling (12 Frames) — Complete the 12 frames and give a caption.
  2. Material manipulation –Materials and themes provided — Themes flora (vegetable, fruit, flower, leaves, plant); Design a container that can contain 200ml water. Material: clay (terracotta), hacksaw blade, bowl of water, sponge. Write In 100 words about the creation / theme that you have depicted.
  3. Create footwear for any foot without pasting; you can cut the material provided ; Materials: 1 lt water bottle, 10 ice- cream sticks, 10 straws, 1 packet polo (Rs.5), 1 shoe lace.
  4. Audio -visual round

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME (GDPD)

  1. Psychometric round — Doodling (12 Frames) — Complete the 12 frames and give a caption.
  2. Material manipulation –Make a CD Box which can accommodate 10 CD’s with the given material Aluminum wire-1 m, Newspaper sheet- 1 sheet, 1 CD
  3. Clay modeling –Make a matchbox out of clay without using any tools. The box should be one- third open and twice the dimension. Print form of match box provided.
  4. Audio -visual round

Visual round – Carefully observe the 3 video clips (shown for 3 seconds each). From your memory recollect and draw them according to the options asked.

Audio clips (4 sec clip shown) write order wise the sounds.

POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME (PGDPD- Product Design)

1 Psychometric round Doodling (12 Frames) — Complete the 12 frames and give a caption.

2 You have to carve a momento out of a 10x10cm cube of polyurethane material. The carving must depict the theme “50 years of NID”. It must include NID logo in proportion.

3 Make any one of the following in the proportion you want: The bottle hanging arrangement found in the Indian Railways Wagons. The top door locking mechanism found in the door of wagons.

MATERIALS: Plastic sheet, nails, pins, fevi stick

4 Make a wrist watch out of the following: Paper sheets (colored), transparent plastic sheets, aluminum sheet, wire. The latching arrangements must work and all the features must be shown: Dial, Minute and Hour Hand, Time setting knob.

  1. 1. Psychometric round Doodling (12 Frames) — Complete the 12 frames and give a caption.
  2. Create a flip book — a man climbing upstairs
  3. Audio –Visual round–Video clips shown (black and white movie) Based on the clips shown memory based questions were asked.

NID STAGE-3 PERSONAL INTERVIEW

INTERVIEW TIPS-

  • Never be late. Interviewer will always prefer people on time.
  • Maintain eye contact with the interviewer(s) but don’t stare.
  • Be positive, avoid negatives but be realistic.
  • Silence your mobile phone. Check twice before entering the interview room.
  • Have knowledge about NID & Designing (the specialization you are aiming at).
  • Try not looking nervous and unsure of what you say. Your temperament will be checked. There might be things said to you to irk you or irritate you.
  • Be prepared to talk about your accomplishments. Review them and be confident about the details.
  • Prepare and practice. Once you’ve done that, practice your responses with a friend, family member or in front of a mirror.
  • Provide clear, concise responses to the interview questions. Don’t ramble. No “ahs” and “ums.”
